Newsflash! Fit with Friends is in a process of metamorphosis, from Google spreadsheet to legitimate software! In the first blog post about this process, I’ll give you a look into why we made this decision and why now.
Fit with Friends, formerly known as Get Fit 2016, is moving into a Mobile Website. Fit with Friends started as a fun little game on a spreadsheet to help some friends and I exercise more 2016. While the spreadsheet served it’s purpose for many months, it is time for Fit with Friends to grow up. With paying users, four different groups and over a year of the challenge, I believe there is a potential for this to become a real business!
As a young professional without family obligations, I have plenty of time to work on this project, and I found a great team to work with me. You’ll hear more about them in a later post. The users of Fit with Friends will make a great group to test the Website, as they are already a captive audience. With a group of users, plenty of time, a fantastic team and the energy to make this happen, we are going for it now!
Here are a few reasons we decided this transition is necessary.
- A mobile website works on any platform. It will work on your phone, tablet or computer. Google Sheets has apps for android and iphone, but neither one work as well as the desktop application. A website will solve this issue.
- Creating our own Fit with Friends website gives us more control over the design of each page. The Google Spreadsheet grid can be rigid and somewhat difficult to work with.
- The web app will make Fit with Friends become even more automatic than it already is. Having automated software means we can grow faster and easily host more than 4 groups.
- Finally, in order to turn Fit with Friends into a legitimate business and have people take this seriously, we need software. The spreadsheet has gotten Fit with Friends far, but this is a necessary step to take it to the next level.
The Fit with Friends team is extremely excited to grow and see where this can go! Be on the lookout for more updates about how this transformation is happening, the team behind it and sneak previews of the website!
