As you heard in the Productive Exercise blog post, I am all about time efficiency. While I’ve read the studies and know that multitasking isn’t always the most efficient option, I do know that multitasking can spice up your workout routine!
As an exercise enthusiast with the goal of creating healthy, active lifestyles, I am all about adding movement to your day! Every so often, the Fit with Friends Daily Double is to do multitasking exercise. This means exercising WHILE doing another activity.
I’ll give you some examples:
- Stretching or doing core while watching TV
- Holding a plank while reading a book
- Squats in the shower
- Studying on the elliptical or treadmill
- Having a walking or running meeting
- Squats while brushing your teeth
- Star jumps while waiting for your lunch to microwave while listening to a podcast
- Lunges while eating ice cream (yes, sometimes this IS necessary)
One of the benefits of multitasking exercise is that it takes your mind off the pain you’re going through. Being distracted from the discomfort helps us work longer and harder.
Multitasking while doing something tedious, like stretching or foam rolling is a great way to rejuvenate your workout and get multiple things done at once! When we enjoy exercise, we are more likely to stick with it. Your new routine could be watching Parks and Recreation while doing a core workout… what a great incentive!
Multitasking exercise is an easy way to add movement into your daily routine. We shower and brush teeth every day (hopefully…) so with no extra time, but a little extra effort, this is a great way to increase movement and earn points at home!
How do you do multitasking exercise? What’s something new you will try this week?
